First off, I love the texture of the hair. The copper and the brown really accentuate eachother and give great dimension. However, some of the dimension is lost with that black outline. While the black does give some form to the contour shape of the hair, I would almost like to see it removed entirely if not minimalized a great deal. I've found that when working in this style, a thin, but weighted line is your best bet as opposed to thick, solid black lines.

Something I really love about this picture is that, while it's stylized, you have the facial dimensions down really well. The nose is in the right place, as are the eyes and mouth. The shape of the skull towards the top of the head looks a little lopsided and can be fixed by rounding it a bit more.
The neck is rather long, though. You'd be safe with chopping about a third of the length off, or even more...but my suggestion is a third.
One last thing is that I don't like how the shoulders cut off before the end of the image, if you know what I mean. I do it a lot and I need to get out of the habit of it, but it doesn't look much like a portrait as it looks unfinished to me. It's as though I'm waiting for the other part of the shoulders and chest to show up, haha!
Bravo on the color combinations, though. The neon green in the foreground and the cyan in the background really make the red in the hair pop, and it makes the character's face an intense vocal point. Great for portraits!

A lot of people who draw anime style can be helped by looking at life. Particularly in this case when it comes to drawing a smiling person. The human face is mostly skin and muscle; the lips, cheeks, nose, and eyes are all kind of sitting on one (well I guess more like two or three) big pieces of bone. When the lips pull into a huge grin like that, the nose is going to flare out a lot. In fact the mouth is usually only slightly wider than the nose under most circumstances. (Part of why extension plastic surgery looks weird you end up with people like Michael Jackson, whose lips are huge and noses are tiny) Also the cheek muscles are actually flexing, that is what pulls the corners of the mouth upwards, and that will push up the lower lids of the eyes. (This is often expressed in anime type styles with 'n' shaped or arched eyes.) This is sort of why, I suppose, you usually call it having a smile 'on your face' instead of 'on your mouth', and why you can tell a person is smiling even if he/she is covering the bottom part of the face.
Also the shading of the hair is really nice, but some of the lines criss-cross too extremely.
Some of the things I would consider '
Nice texturing on the skin and clothes. It adds realism despite the thick lineart. Very cool looking.
